Deputy Head of Stage
ATG Entertainment is proud to stand at the forefront of the live entertainment industry.
Our expertise and capabilities enable producers and other creatives to bring their visions to life and create unforgettable performances for audiences, presented in our landmark venues and delivered with exceptional hospitality. It is the passion of our teams, that cover every discipline across the live entertainment industry, that underpins our continuing strategic growth and success.
The Phoenix is a beautiful venue steeped in rich history; originally built on the site of an old musical hall called The Alcazar, it’s been the home of serious drama, comedy and musicals for over 92 years. We have a neoclassical exterior and an interior designed in an Italianate style by Theodore Komisarjevsky. The theatre opened with the premiere of Private Lives featuring Noёl Coward in the cast, along with Gertrude Lawrence, Adrienne Allen and a young Laurence Olivier. One of the most outstanding successes for the venue to date was Willy Russell’s ‘Blood Brothers’, which transferred from the Albery Theatre in late 1991 and became the venue’s longest running show playing until 2012. The Phoenix is proud to be the West End home of the award-winning production ‘Stranger Things: The First Shadow’, which opened to great acclaim in November 2023.
The Deputy Head of Stage will support the Head of Stage with the day-to-day running of the theatre from a technical perspective, working collaboratively with the venue Electrics team, Technical and Buildings Manager, and venue management to ensure the upkeep and maintenance of the venue to a high standard. This shall include assisting with the scheduling of maintenance and inspection work in line with both company Risk Management policy and relevant legislation, the facilitation and overseeing of external contractors, and the undertaking of regular maintenance and carpentry projects to support the venue’s needs. The Deputy Head of Stage shall also seek to maintain a good working relationship with the resident production, working closely with Company Management to ensure appropriate levels of support and oversight are provided to the production Stage Crew, and assisting the Stage Management team with crew scheduling and production maintenance when required. Excellent knowledge of production carpentry, rigging, and counterweight flying is essential for this role.
To succeed in this position you will be a clear communicator, able to work closely with both the Head of Stage, and Technical & Buildings Manager, to develop an effective working relationship with visiting companies, the wider venue team, colleagues in London theatres, and ATG Entertainment’s central services, as well as contractors and suppliers. You will also be required to work closely with the venue Electrics Department, collaborating on projects and tasks from time-to-time. As part of your duties, you will oversee contractors and remedial works and complete administration duties to ensure that we are compliant with current Health and Safety legislation. The ability to work calmly under pressure and come up with creative solutions to problems is essential in this role.
This position is Full Time. Please note regular evening and weekend work will be required.
