We are delighted to announce OPEN AUDITIONS for child roles within the North-West Amateur premiere of Les Misérables. 

The first adult amateur production of Les Misérables in the North-West will be staged at the Liverpool Empire 3rd – 5th July 2025.

The show is produced by BOST Musicals & The Liverpool Empire Creative Learning department, working in collaboration with Stockport’s Romiley Operatic Society and Wrexham-based Tip Top Productions.

This exciting opportunity is part of Cameron Macintosh and Music Theatre International’s special Les Mis 40th anniversary celebrations Let the People Sing! initiative which is allowing amateur organisations to stage the musical for the first time.

We are looking for children to play the roles of:

Young Cosette (female, playing age 8-10)

Young Eponine/Urchin (female, playing age 8 - 10)

Gavroche (male, playing age 9-12)

The production will be double cast, so successful children will appear at 2 out of the 4 performances.

You must live no more than a 60 minute journey from the Liverpool Empire Theatre. 

PLEASE NOTE: There will be no children's ensemble in this production, only these featured roles.

There is no charge to audition. 

 

INITIAL AUDITION ROUND

For the first round of auditions, we will be accepting self-tapes only

Applications close Wednesday 5th March at Midday. 

We cannot accept late applications. 

The self-tape should include the following:

  • Child introducing their first name only and age to camera
  • Child telling an interesting fact about themselves to camera (could be their favourite food, their pet’s name, something that shows their personality)
  • Child performing the audition material (see below)
  • Please film from the waist up.
  • You submit one video only, either filmed in one or edited together.
  • The entire video must not exceed 90 seconds.

Children will be required to learn the song material below

 

Little Cosette

Cosette is a sincere and innocent child. Cosette should look vulnerable and helpless.

We are looking for performers with sweet and youthful voices to join the Company. 

Playing age: 8–10 years

Gender: Female 

Appearance: Any appearance

 

Gavroche

Gavroche is a cheeky, Charismatic, likeable Kid. Streetwise beyond his years.

Approx 11 years old.

We are looking for Confident performers with Natural charm and Strong unchanged voices.

Playing age: 9–12 years

Gender: Male

Appearance: Any appearance

To Audition:

Cosette sings Castle on a Cloud 

Gavroche sings  'Ow do you do my names Gavroche’ section in The Beggars, in the song Paris/Look Down Act One. 

 

RECALL ROUND

Successful applicants will be recalled to an in-person audition on Sunday 16th March.   

Alternative dates are not available. 

IMPORTANT - At this round, we will measure children on arrival to confirm their height.

 

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements for this show are VERY specific and we ask you to read all the information carefully before applying, to ensure your child is suitable. 

We are looking for children who are confident, full-voiced and able to portray the characters of the poor, forgotten street children of this story. 

Children do not have to be the actual ages listed above but must be believable enough to play the ages listed. 

We welcome a diverse range of children for these roles and have no preconceived expectations for roles regarding hair colour or ethnicity. 

We need little people with big personalities and bold performances!

All children MUST BE:

  • confident with acting & singing solo, especially in a large auditorium such as the Liverpool Empire
  • taller than 3ft8/112cm (at time of audition)
  • shorter than 4ft3/131cm (at time of audition)
  • born on or before 31st August 2017
  • BOYS MUST HAVE UNBROKEN VOICES

Children must be available for regular rehearsals between March and July, which will take place as follows, subject to the rehearsal schedule:

  • Tuesday evenings (7-9pm)
  • Thursday evenings (7-9pm)
  • Sundays (either 10am-2pm or 2-6pm)

PLEASE NOTE: Children will not be called to rehearsal every week but will not be permitted to miss rehearsals they are called to on the rehearsal schedule.

WE CANNOT ACCOMMODATE CHILDREN WHO CANNOT ATTEND REQUIRED REHEARSALS DUE TO HOLIDAYS OR OTHER COMMITMENTS.
