Sonia Friedman Productions is seeking applications for a new Sound Internship on the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. This is an exciting development opportunity for someone who wishes to gain practical experience and knowledge in sound engineering within theatre production.
This internship has been founded in memory of Laura Head, a committed, valued and much missed member of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’s sound team.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child received its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in summer 2016 and won a record-breaking nine Olivier awards including Best Sound Design in 2017. The Intern will have the opportunity to meet with the show’s Sound Designer, Gareth Fry, to learn about the design process of the show and ask any design and career-related questions they may have.
The intern will also be offered a one-year apprentice membership to The Association of Sound Designers at Future Professional level, starting in September 2022. This membership will provide access to the ASD’s training, resources and events.
The internship will run from August to December 2022 across the Production’s recast rehearsals and performances. The Intern will work Wednesday to Friday each week:
- Wednesday: matinee and evening performance
- Thursday: maintenance day and/or cover rehearsals
- Friday: matinee and evening performance
Across this schedule, the Intern will be trained and supported by the show’s Sound department. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to: the preparation, maintenance and operation of the sound design.
We ask that candidates should:
- Be able to demonstrate interest and experience in theatre sound.
- Have some practical experience of supporting live events and productions.
- Be eager to learn.
- Work well under pressure and within a team.
Professional experience is not required.
Candidates may still be studying at a UK educational institution; note that this placement is for over 18s only.
Start Date: August 2022
Please Note: All applicants must be able to commit to the full contract.
Job Location: West End London
Contract Type: Part-time, Fixed Term
Salary: London Living Wage
Weekly Hours: 4 shows per week plus maintenance and understudy calls.
Application Deadline: Sunday 3rd July, middnight
To apply, please submit a CV and a short covering letter, no more than 400 words, summarising your interest and experience in theatre sound, and what you would like to gain from this opportunity.
We are committed to a workplace that embraces equality, diversity and inclusion. We particularly welcome and encourage applications from those currently underrepresented in our workforce, and across the entertainment industry.
